Rehabilitating Our View of St. Thérèse

What’s usually the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of St. Thérèse of Lisieux?

Roses falling from heaven? Saccharine sweetness? Flowery language?

You wouldn't be alone. Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume most people don't immediately think “spiritual powerhouse” or “brilliant doctor of the Church” when their thoughts turn to the “Little Flower.”

It’s time to rehabilitate our view of St. Thérèse! She was a woman of profound depth who exemplified love in action and who suffered intensely during her short life, yet we miss what’s so important about her.

Well, enough is enough!

This week on the podcast, I’m breaking open some of the life and doctrine of one of the youngest doctors of the Church, and discussing how her life helps us see how holiness is possible, no matter what the circumstances of our lives might be.

So often we have the perception that to be holy - to really follow the Gospel - we have to live a certain type of lifestyle.

Maybe you feel restricted from pursuing holiness because of your health or finances. Or maybe you feel constricted by the requirements and demands placed on you by your job, your family, or your state in life.

St. Thérèse shows us how sanctity can happen within the confines of our own life, regardless of our circumstances. Tune in to the episode to find out how!

You can also listen to the podcast here on Apple, here on Spotify, or here on Google.

Make a Morning Offering

This week (if you don’t already), commit to starting each day offering all of yourself to God.

Pope St. John Paul II encouraged the practice of praying a Morning Offering, saying that it is “of fundamental importance in the life of each and every one of the faithful.”

Here’s one based on a Morning Offering written by St. Thérèse:
“O my God! I offer You all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of my heart, every thought, and my simplest works by uniting them to Its infinite merits, and wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the furnace of Its merciful love.

O my God! For myself and for those whom I hold dear, I ask for the grace to fulfill perfectly your Holy Will, and to accept out of love for you the joys and sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together in heaven for all eternity. Amen.”
Attaining Holiness
"Holiness consists simply in doing God’s will and being just what God wants us to be."

“Jesus, help me to simplify my life by learning what you want me to be and becoming that person.”

- St. Thérèse of Lisieux
